FEDEX - They Get You There

As I stared straight ahead, small SUV to a gigantic FedEx Cargo truck, I waited near the Atlanta Airport traffic light, willing it to turn green so I could turn left. I knew the hotel conference I sought was somewhere by the Atlanta airport, but where?First, however, I had to wait courteously while a mega-ton FedEx truck chugged its way across the intersection foot by foot, as he woke up his engine, coaxing its heavy load slowly across that stretch of pavement. All of this while, its driver, busily smoking a huge cigar, smiling and puffing, as the cab portion slowly passed me, nodding his head to acknowledge my patience to turn. It was like watching a small FedEx train in slow motion, first the engine in which the FedEx conductor sat, his head and shoulders bobbing up and down in syncopation with the slow bob of the suspension. I listened as the sleepy engine whined and sputtered. The engine was followed by the brightly colored red and blue FedEx logo car #1. Holding a close second, came car #2. Finally, as all of this FedEx choo-choo had cleared the intersection, I smiled knowing that the airport hotel destination to which I was headed for a conference to which I was desperately seeking directions to make a 8:00 a.m. appointment must be nearby. It had to be! And it was! As I pulled down the road, my eyes met a Welcome Committee of seemingly miles of FedEx trucks, as if smiling and waiting for their heavy loads of packages from the soon-to-arrive airplanes. What an adventure - and it was only 7:45 a.m. FedEx - they get you there!
